Northumberland County Release Meanings
A Northumberland County release is a fact about physical custody. It does not by itself end a criminal case, erase a sentence, or establish why the person left. Northumberland County Jail may release someone after bail is posted, a judge signs another release order, a county term expires, or county parole begins. A booking photograph may be requested separately, but Pennsylvania law now makes access highly context dependent. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, investigative, personal, and security-sensitive material may be withheld or redacted. The smallest record that shows the date, time, code, authority, and receiving agency often answers the release question with fewer disclosure disputes.
When Northumberland Release Paperwork Arrives

The locator uses the literal label “Release Date” on the parolee side. It does not expose a public inmate field called “Projected Release Date.” A parolee result can show that a person left an institution but remains within a state sentence. A fully discharged person may later fall outside the locator's active scope.

The county Human Services Plan documents a Northumberland County Reentry Coalition and coordinated meetings inside the jail. Why Northumberland Release Records Moved
The current Coal Township jail replaced Northumberland County's former downtown Sunbury facility after a serious 2015 fire. That history matters during a release search because stale directory pages and unofficial databases still repeat the old location. A source that points only to the former jail may describe an archived event, not the office that now confirms a release.
Local retrospective accounts disagree on whether occupancy at the replacement began in 2017 or 2018. Without a primary opening record, “the late 2010s” is the accurate description. Current Northumberland County release requests belong with the county jail and Prison Open Records Officer identified by today's county pages. An old address can remain valid within a historical record, but it cannot establish current custody, a current release, or the present place to request proof.
Northumberland County Release Facilities
Northumberland County Jail is the county-operated local facility at Coal Township. A person may return to the community or transfer to another custodian. Jail Records and the county docket form the local confirmation pair.
State Correctional Institution Coal Township is a PA DOC medium-security institution for men. Its releases, parole status, transfers, and discharge records belong to the statewide corrections system, not county Jail Records. Its Reentry Service Office works with people nearing a minimum or release date, but that service does not publish a person's date.
